Blog 4: Curatorial

Quote from Alfred Lord Tennyson “All experience is an arch wherethrough gleams that untravelled world whose margin fades for ever and for ever when I move”.

Wave forms of this object which are made of vellum material act as the archways, the arches create fluidity by how the arches hold each other together and up. ‘Untraveled world whose margin fades for ever and for ever when I move’ represents the senses of the perspectives that can be achieved by looking at this object on different angles. Looking at the model on the straight angle you can see the arches being white, but if you take a photograph looking through those arches, all you see is darkness as you can see in one of the photos of this model. Darkness of the arches produces contrast with the alternative white arches, therefore it constructs new curves for the viewers.

Performing arts centre

Precedent image ‘Performing arts centre’ designed by Zaha Hadid was a strong influence on the overall production of this model, by the idea of the curves on this building especially the arch at the top encouraged the designer to use vellum material to create arches to capture the continuing curves.

Bauhaus

Bauhaus influenced straight line. Bauhaus designs represents geometric straights lines; therefore there's no fluidity look to it at all. The geometric straight line that’s made of copper wire which holds the arches together for the model presents time, and time is essentially endless, therefore the archways for the model will be endless.

Project 2: One word film final

Here is the final for one word film animation, I got the sounds from www.freesound.org

Project 2: Storyboards

Explode storyboard
This is my first storyboard, the word for it is 'Explode'. The letters in the word will explode and the letters are suppose to break apart from each other throughout the video. But I thought about it and I came to the conclusion that it will be way too hard to do.

  Crack storyboard
For the 'Crack' storyboard, each letter will form crack patterns throughout the video and they will separate from each other. So this storyboard is sort of relating to like an earthquake like how it cause concrete to crack and separate from each other.

 Snap storyboard
In the end I ended up choosing this idea which is 'Snap', because I found it more interesting and I had an idea what to do for it. The word in this on will be snapping in half and also the other letters will as well with sound effect that suits it so it will make it interesting for the viewer.

Blog 3: Antiques Hunter

“Art Nouveau flourished in a number of European countries” including like France, Britain, Spain and Austria, they also have their own names for the style. But for Germany the named that they use for this style is ‘Jugendstil’. The name Jugendstil was derived from the Munich magazine which featured Art Nouveau designs
.
Searching through Trademe I’ve found this German Art Nouveau style candle holder which doesn’t have information of the creator and date on it, but it would have been made between 1800s and 1910s.

A candle holder is an object that is “part of everyday life”. As you can see from the pictures there are curving lines all around the candle holder which shows us that it’s an Art Nouveau style object. “Although curving lines characterize Art Nouveau” The whole candle holder is full of curving designs, like the middle of the holder; it looks like a shape of a flower pot which it indicates flowers. Some of the designs from this style have like organic or flowers on them so the shape that looks like a flower pot on the holder symbolizes that.

Art Nouveau designs have organic/plants on the object, on the bottom of the candle holder there are a few like organic/plant bits on their which I think its suppose to create beauty and harmony to the object along with the curve lines. “Art Nouveau style are flat, decorative patterns, intertwined organic forms of stems or flowers”, “Organic and dynamic forms”.

In my opinion I think the seller could of included a bit more information about this object like the date of it and the material that it was made out of.
