DSDN 141: Final model

Here is my final model that I've finished, as you can see in the image I've added a twisted piece at the tip of the motor where it spins so it will give it a bit of weight to be able to move the whole model around. I'm pretty happy how it turned out because it's clean and simple, all the wires are just twisted on tight and not attached on with glue or anything.

Close up shot off the motor and of it spinning.

DSDN 141: Changing motors

My second mobile phone motor has also broke on me by both of the electrical wires ripping off the motor. So I can't find another mobile phone motor, this is my last resource that I have in the image above. The motor on this one is a lot bigger and it won't make the model move unless you put some sort of weight object at the tip of motor where that piece spins around. The model in the image is my model that I made and it was a fail because when you connect it to the electrical supply to turn it on, the whole model just falls over straight away because the wires were for the small motor so they are way to thin and I'll need some thicker wires for this motor.

DSDN 141: Progress and development

This was my first model that I made, it's got the motor stuck on a little piece of cardboard with masking tape and then put it together with the wires with masking tape as well. This model didn't turn out too well because it fell over straight away when I connected it to the electrical supply to try make it move along.

I try to put the motor on one of the legs of the model to see how that will turn out but it did the same thing like my first model, it just fell over.

I went back to putting the motor in the middle between the two wires but this time the motor is on sideways and it's just taped on with no cardboard.

This has the same experiment as my last one with the motor on sideways in the middle, but since that last experiment also didn't work, I decide to put a box next to the model and put my electrical supply on top the box. I have my wires hanging from the top of the box now and the model didn't just tip over because I'm holding the two electrical wires so the model is stable in that way. I don't really want the electrical wires hanging from the top I just want to make it original like the other models but I have to find a way to keep the model stable when vibrating.

For this development I've cut a piece of vellum and then pinned four holes so the two wires can slot through, I did this because I want to give the model a clean look so I would like to stay away from masking tape or any tape. But for the model I just use a little bit of double sided tape to attach it on the vellum.

I did the motor on sideways experiment again but it's slotted through the middle of the vellum. The amount of experiments so far the model is still not stable and I've found out why. The reason my model isn't stable is because the two wire legs have too much movement to them on the part where they are attach to the vellum and to fix that I need to find a way to keep the legs stable on the piece of vellum.

DSDN 141: Motor and materials

This was my first motor that I had to start this project off, it's a vibrating motor from a mobile phone and it was a perfect little motor that's clean looking. But the problem was that the two bits where the electrical wire goes broke so I couldn't solder the wires on to make the motor work.

Since my little motor broke, I manage to find some old mobile phones around home, then I ripped them apart and manage to find a different vibrating motor. This isn't the same motor like my one that broke but it's still small and clean looking. In the image above, I've soldered and tape the electrical wires on so I can connect them to a electrical supply.

I'm going to use wire to make the legs for my model and I'm thinking about using really thin wire because the motor is really small so connecting that to thin wire, it will make it move when it's vibrating. If I made the legs with thick wire, it won't move because it's too heavy for the motor to make it move.

DSDN 141: P.3 Precedents

My precedent images for this final project are Daddy long leg spiders and insects. I find the legs on those spiders and insects really interesting so I try to do something similar to them for my output model. I'm planning to make my model that moves or maybe jump like a insect because I'm planning to put a motor on my model.

DSDN 112: Final video

Here's my final video for this project and I’m pretty happy how some of it turned out. I decided not to have some of the effects and sounds that I was thinking about having because it just wouldn't of suited the music. The music that I use is an industrial rock genre one and I got that off http://freemusicarchive.org/. I choose the music because I reckon it fit in quite well with the Bmx riding in it, but the only bit of the music I didn't really like is the squeaking sound that's almost at the end of the video. I didn't end up using the tape fast forwarding sound for the fast forwarding parts of the video because I reckon it would of just ruined the music for the video. I also didn't use slow motion either because I realise there were no parts in the video that the effect will go well with. The video ended up turning out like four minutes long, I should of somehow shorten it up a bit but I was travelling from the waterfront TSB arena to Kelburn campus which took ages so that's why there's so many clips have been filmed and i wanted everything to link together in the video. I wish I could of done more Bmx riding for the video but after the Pipitea Victoria campus all the roads were starting to go uphill that's why I was pushing my bike most of the way in the video. Another reason I couldn't do more riding is the amount of pedestrians there were around town and I was struggling to even film the riding clips that's in the video because the amount of pedestrians. Overall I'm stoked that the video turned out alright in the end.

DSDN 112: Exporting on Premiere

Since I just use Windows movie maker to create my video I could only export it as a Windows media player file, but in the hand in requirements you have to export it as a QuickTime file, so I ended up importing my video into Adobe premiere pro to export. On the bottom image it shows my video imported onto Adobe premiere pro.

DSDN 112: Sound

I need to find some sound for my video because I can't just make the video with no sound because that will just make it boring for the audience to watch. I was considering maybe using some rock music or blues because it will go with the Bmx riding in the video. I'm going to have fast forward parts on my video so I was thinking about using that tape fast forwarding sound for it.
Since the sounds have to be copyright I'm going to look on these two websites for sounds because they are all copyright.

DSDN 112: Video filmed

Finally I’ve got all my filming done today after having a lot of problems with the weather and attempting to import my navigation app onto my phone. Pretty stoked how the weather turned out in the afternoon, I was stressing out for a bit in the morning because it was spitting. On the bottom you can see all the footage that I've filmed are on Windows movie maker to be edited. I've choose to edit with Windows movie maker because I struggled with Adobe premiere pro and I can't use after effects to edit because my trial has expired from last trimester.

DSDN 112: Effects to consider

I was thinking about putting some effects on my video to try and make it more interesting. The effect that I was thinking about is that slow motion effect and that fast forwarding one. The fast forwarding effect is just to speed the video up a bit on some parts, like the cars moving and me walking through town because there's no point just leaving those video parts playing real slow, it will just make the video boring to watch. Also for those effects I could consider adding sound to them as well.

DSDN 112: Programs for editing

I don't really know what programs I want to use for editing my final video for this project, I was planning to use Adobe after effects but after downloading the trial again I realise my trial has expired from using it for DSDN 101 stop motion video. So now I'm planning to try out Adobe premiere pro for my video and see how that goes. I might consider using Windows movie maker for a backup if I struggle using Premiere pro and my camera is full HD so the quality shouldn't turn out too bad.

DSDN 112: Movie Maker

Change of plans for putting my navigation app onto my phone. Since I can't get the Swf player working on mine or my mates phone, I tried making my flash file as a AIR android file but that didn't work either. Now when it's coming to the end I'm going to just make my navigation app into like a video on my phone because that's the only way off putting the app onto the phone so I can interact with it. I'm making the video off the app like a stop motion. I'm going to export the navigation files that I need for this video which I made on Illustrator into Jpegs and then import them into Windows movie maker to edit into a video.

On Illustrator to export the navigation images into Jpegs.

All the images that I've exported from Illustrator into Jpegs have now been all imported into Windows movie maker to make the video.

DSDN 112: More update on Part B

I haven't been able get any filming done yesterday because my navigation app doesn't work on mine or my mates android phones for some reason, even though we have downloaded the flash Swf player for it. I'm trying to convert my navigation app to a mobile program on flash cs5.5 but flash cs5.5 isn't working on the school computers at the moment which is also another problem. If flash still doesn't work by Sunday I might have to change some ideas for my video, like the video parts where I have my navigation app on a phone and I'm interacting with it. I think now I can't shoot my video until Monday because the weather is supposed to be crap all weekend.

Weather forecast for the weekend. It says on Monday there's some morning drizzle and it will fine up, so I hope it will actually clear up.

DSDN 112: Swf player for android

I had no idea how to actually put my navigation onto an android phone so I asked my tutor and he sent me this Swf player that I can download for the android phone. Hopefully this Swf player will work or else I'll have to find another way of putting the app onto the phone.

DSDN 112: Putting the flash app onto phone

I need to put my navigation app that I created on flash onto an android phone but I think I'll need to borrow the Samsung galaxy S1, S2 or S3 off a mate because I only have the old Samsung galaxy phone and the screen isn't that big so my app probably won't fit on it. I made the size of each frame on my navigation app to fit the Samsung android S series phones so if I wanted to change the size to the screen size off my phone, I'll have to do all of it in flash and, that will be a real hassle and time wasting.

This is the Samsung phone that I have and as you can see the screen is much smaller compare to the Galaxy S3 on the bottom.

DSDN 112: Update on P.2 part B

At the moment I still haven't started filming for my video yet, I'm doing that on Friday due to that's when my mate is free to help me film. Fingers cross the weather will actually be fine on Friday, since I am filming everything outdoor and using my bike as well. The weather forecast said it's supposed to be fine but you never know when the weather will change. I'm going to use my Panasonic V100 camcorder to film this video as you can see it in the image on the bottom; it's a full HD camera so the quality should turn out pretty good. I'm not sure about using a tripod to film anything yet because I'm doing quite a lot filming of me riding my bike along the streets so you don't really want to film that having the camera sitting still on the tripod.

DSDN 142: My final images for mouse toy

These are my images off my mouse toy, I'm a little bit gutted how the unexpected images came out because they just come up with a real quick flash and not stay on the screen for a few seconds. I tried to use a timer on them but it didn't work out so I just have to leave it there. I couldn't get any images of the unexpected images because the images pop up so fast that I couldn't even print screen them. I've added a fuse burning sound for the fuse and a explosion sound for the two unexpected outcomes. Basicly for my idea it's involve with mouse clicking, you have to keep clicking the fuse with your mouse to be able to make it move to the left dynamites to experience the unexpected outcome. Also when you click the fuse at the start, it will just start travelling towards the right dynamites automatically and if the fuse hits them you will experience the unexpected outcome for that one, and the fuse will just reset back to normal.

DSDN 142: Images for unexpected outcome

These are the two images I'm going to use for the unexpected outcome. When the fuse touch the right dynamite, the image of an explosion will come up and for the coyote image, it will pop up when the fuse touches the left dynamites. I choose the explosion image because dynamites explode when the fuse touches the dynamites. I choose the Coyote image because he's got a boom box with him and he's about to blow something up, for my mouse toy when the fuse touches the left dynamites it bounces back to the right dynamites and create an explosion. So those two images pretty much link with each other in my mouse toy.

DSDN 142: Background and dynamites on processing

Here are my dynamites and background on Processing, as you can see in the image I've added more dynamites to it and made the wire yellow colour because I made it white at the start but I don't reckon a white wire will go well with the background and it will just ruin the cartoon theme.

DSDN 142: dynamite fuse

This is a fuse that I made on Illustrator which I'm planning to put on my dynamite wire so it actually shows what dynamite looks like when it's been lit on. I could of just use an ellipse travelling on the dynamite wires but then I decide I'll make it look more realistic with this image of a fuse on it. The fuse actually looks blurry from here because the actual image of it is so small.

DSDN 142: Unexpected outcomes

Since I want my mouse toy to have an unexpected outcome when the dynamites are touch with the spark, I had a look at some images that I can use to create the interaction. On the bottom here are some images that I had a look at.

These are images that I had a look at, I looked at Coyote from Looney tunes for the unexpected outcome because he's always getting blown up in his scenes with road runner so I could try and have one of his blown up faces on one side of the dynamites. For one of the other side, I could have an image of blown up dynamites to show the image of an explosion.

DSDN 142: Background

I'm planning to use this Looney tunes background for my mouse toy background because it's a background off coyote and road runners scenes and they always have explosions on their scenes so I decide to go with their theme. This looks like a Dragon ballz theme as well as you can see in the image on the bottom. I guess Dragon ballz and looney tunes are both cartoons so they will look a like.

DSDN 142: Dynamites on processing

Here are my dynamites on Processing which were created on Illustrator, at the moment there's only a white background on there because I haven't got an idea what one I want to use to create a cartoon theme. I think I might add a few more dynamites on there as well because I think it might look a bit better.

DSDN 142: Sound

I'm thinking about adding sounds to my mouse toy because if I don't have any sound to like an explosion it just wouldn't be very fun to watch or interactive. For the fuse I also want to add sound to that as well because there's no point of just adding sound to the explosion but not the fuse. I thought about if I just add sound to the explosion but not the fuse it could be interactive by having an unexpected outcome off sound but I rather just make everything go with the flow.

DSDN 142: Process of my Dynamites

As you can see these are my first dynamites that I've made on Adobe Illustrator. I pretty much just drew them on their without having to import an image from the net and then trace over it because drawing dynamites were pretty easy.

I started adding more dynamites on because I feel that having only three dynamites just look a bit too basic in the mouse toy.

DSDN 142: Theme for my mouse toy

When I look at these dynamites, they just remind me off some cartoon like Mickey mouse because off the red, white and black colours. But I know Mickey Mouse don't have dynamites in the shows because it's more peaceful than a violent show. There are a lot off cartoons that are involve with dynamites, like Itchy and Scratchy from the Simpsons, Looney tunes, Tom and Jerry etc. I would like to create like a cartoon theme for my mouse toy because it will go with the dynamites more.
